Francis John Henry Jenkinson (1853-1923) was born at Forres, Morayshire, on 20 August 1853. He was educated at a private school at Woodcote, near Henley-on-Thames, and at Marlborough College. In 1872 he entered Trinity College, Cambridge (B.A., 1876; M.A., 1879), where he became a Fellow in 1878. Mildmay Fane, 2nd Earl of Westmorland (d. 1666), was the eldest son of Francis Fane, 1st Earl. He attended Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and served as the Member of Parliament for Peterborough, 1621 and 1626-1628, and Kent, 1625. He was created Knight of the Bath in 1625. Fane supported the king at the outbreak of the Civil War, and was fined and sequestrated by Parliament in 1642.
